17α-Hydroxyprogesterone
Salimetrics Salivary 17α-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) Enzyme Immunoassay kit measures this precursor molecule produced in the adrenal gland and gonads. Levels of 17-OHP are fairly low and constant in early childhood development and increase during puberty until they reach adult levels. Measurement of 17-OHP is most commonly used to diagnose deficiencies causally linked to congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Because of this, infant screening programs are widespread. Deficiencies are also associated with impaired aldosterone synthesis and risk for potentially fatal salt-wasting. In addition the test can be used to monitor steroid replacement therapy progress.
