C-Reactive Protein
C-reactive proteins are released in response to inflammation and increase one-hundred-fold during certain acute-phase inflammatory disorders. The Salimetrics C-Reactive Protein ELISA kit measures these proteins in saliva, raising research questions about the possibility that minimally invasive saliva tests could be associated with risk or resilience to disorders linked to chronic inflammation such as coronary events, including heart attacks and strokes. The emergent field of periodontal medicine also raises the possibility that salivary CRP levels could index individual differences in oral health . Recently, oral health and chronic infection has been linked to systemic health, illness, and disorders of various types.
