Saliva Collection Aid (SCA)

The Saliva Collection Aid (SCA) is a new device that fits securely inside common externally threaded cryovials to simplify collection of whole saliva samples from participants. Developed by SalivaBio, LLC in collaboration with the Center for Interdisciplinary Salivary Bioscience Research at the Johns Hopkins University (Press Release), the new collection aid is now available from Salimetrics.

Whole saliva, a mixture of the oral fluids that pool on the floor of the mouth, is considered by many researchers to be the gold standard when collecting saliva samples for biological testing.  Although collecting whole saliva by spitting or drooling might seem to be easy, it actually can be a messy task that discourages some people from donating samples. 

The new device has a number of features that make it attractive to researchers and saliva donors:
